No. Not yet. Can you just...if I tell you what's happening can you tell me if you've ever heard of anything like it?

[ this is mostly because he doesn't want to ask for a piggyback ride, he still has some dignity ]

[Graciously, William isn't about to impose piggyback rides just yet, either. Can tell dignity when it's being preciously guarded by a teenager with a cellphone.]

[ there's a pause here, clearly thomas debating whether or not he wants to get specific about this ]

[A beat.]

Plenty of reasons that could happen. Loads of them ain't permanent. Especially on the Tranquility, [says William, whose bedside manner verges on acceptable, occasionally.] Can I come 'round and have a look?

[wiped]

[ another moment of hesitation, and then-- ]

Yeah okay. You might as well.

Promise I won't bring my butt thermometer, [he says, not honestly thinking he'll get a laugh, but what's not to try?]

I'm in my room. I...the door's unlocked. You can come right in.

[ butt thermometer??? thomas' grasp on modern medicine is kind of shaky. gladers weren't much for it, and the memory wipe took care of everything else. ]

[It's not very long before a knock on the young man's door interrupts the quiet, heralding the arrival of another young man on the other side if not nearly as tender in his years as Thomas.

William seems older when he's working than when he isn't, but Thomas doesn't really have a version of him to compare with at this point. William has been crass and blunt and nosy, but he has always been on the job in addition to all those things. He emerges through the unlocked door with a medkit hanging off his shoulder and a quickness to the shifting trajectory of his eyes. Jump nausea and humdrum routine are all very well, but the paranoia of fieldwork isn't gone from him yet.]

[ thomas was on his way to the door when it happened. his legs had buckled and he'd dropped, just like that, legs useless. he doesn't understand it. in the time it took william to get here he'd dragged himself over to the bed, hauled himself up. it'd be a lie if he said he hadn't pinched himself a few times, just trying to get the feeling back. ]

[A little strained. William thinks he, himself, would be spitting curses and throwing things for other people to pick up. At least for a few minutes. There are not enough disturbances to Thomas' room to suggest to him that the boy engaged in any such behavior.

He sets a reassuring hand on the boy's arm, which turns into a stronger grip. William leans down, digs his heels in to help try and hoist him up. The bed isn't very far away, they can manage.
