I suppose its a bit odd Van Rijn's lived this long, but we do have some of his physical enhancements documented. leadership qualities, maybe related to assimilation, but also his longevity.

he was one of the few people who's ever showed up in this place who was upfront and honest about shit. he even took the time to answer some needed questions rather than dodging them. after being here for so long, it's easy to actually appreciate that.
seems more like they were under a time constraint. given the amount of time that passes between jumps, can see why they were in such a rush to gather intel.

have also been around for over a century at this point.
either way it's not that hard to believe that someone can live that long, given the technology of this world.
