[ Have a very long silence that would clearly be a baffled one, vs. judgmental, if William could see his face and all of the cartoon question marks popping up around his head—not for lack of an alternate universe somewhere out there where he's utterly and tragically smitten with the lovely and charming Mrs. Mason-Lands, but because he'd taken the whole 'walk off miserable about someone else and never mention it or come around again' thing as a sign of disinterest, all subsequent complications aside, and this reads an awful lot like jealousy.

She's very pretty & funny but more importantly she was trapped by Sirius' mistletoe & vehemently opposed to fire.
I came across her on my way to see you, actually. I was going to bring you some things for your house arrest.
